The Transcendental Water
Project Summary
The transcendental water is a collection of sculptures made of recycled metal parts with futuristic post-apocalyptic look that remind viewers of traditional Chinese Suzhou garden pond with a mix of psychedelic elements to create a fictional tomorrow sanctuary experience. Instead of tangible objects being the center, it mainly focuses on the implicated invisible body of water leveraging the shape, light, reflection and sound of water to create this zen experience.
Physical Description
The installation consists of three main components:
- A centerpiece featuring an 8-10 foot large-scale carp fish (Koi) jumping through a dragon gate
- 10-12 smaller dynamic carp fish sculptures arranged freely on the playa ground
- Three meditation seating arrangements decorated with lotus flowers and lily pads
Physical Dimensions
- Transcendence centerpiece: 6 feet circular arrangement, 10 feet tall, 5 feet wide
- Small Carp pieces (12): 1.5 feet × 6 inches each
- Meditation seating (3): 2 feet round pad, 1 foot lotus flower
Interactivity
Visitors can engage with the installation through:
- Meditation in designated areas
- Viewing spots guided by fish sculpture arrangements
- Bridge viewing perspective
- Curated events including sound baths and light shows
Philosophy
Drawing from Chinese concepts of "Yin and Yang" and "Wu" (void), this installation explores the power of the invisible. It creates contrasts between:
- Harsh desert and tranquil oasis
- Organic forms and mechanical materials
- Static sculptures and dynamic perception
- Tangible art and negative space
The carp jumping through the dragon gate symbolizes personal transcendence, inviting viewers to reflect on their own inner journey.
